What is Transport Canada single-engine recency?

CAR 401.05 requires pilots to have completed at least 5 takeoffs and 5 landings in an aeroplane within the preceding 24 months (or meet an alternate recency option) before acting as PIC. Additional IFR and passenger-carrying recency rules apply.
